Blackboard Opens New Data Centre in Singapore

New Facility Will Support Growing Demand for Online Education Services Across Asia

Singapore, 10 October 2014 – Blackboard today announced the opening of a new data centre in Singapore, responding to customer requests for an in-region, private cloud facility to host and manage their learning environments. The new facility is in addition to those already existing in Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Australia and Canada.

The managed hosting deployment model is specifically designed to support student and institutional success. It provides institutions with faster speeds and 24x7x365 access to technical expertise to manage installations, upgrades, and day-to-day system maintenance. This allows for cost reduction and enables institutional staff to devote more time and attention to improving and growing learning programmes.

Today’s announcement is a part of the company’s expanded cloud strategy that offers customers the most comprehensive set of deployment options in the market today: locally on-site, through Blackboard’s Managed Hosting offering, or a SaaS/public cloud option.

Blackboard’s solutions and services power over 130 leading schools and universities in Asia. With already several offices across the region and a team of specialists in educational services, product development and sales, the company is further investing to support local institutions and help students achieve their educational goals. The new data centre helps solidify Blackboard’s growing global presence and marks the company’s latest move in a critical region.

"Opening a new data centre in Singapore underscores our commitment to the region and further testifies the ever growing relevance of Asia in the education industry," said Matthew Small, managing director and senior vice president, international at Blackboard. “We listen to the specific needs of our customers and this new data facility is important to us because it is a priority for them.”
